One of the most tragic events to happen in the United States is known as the assassination of President John F. Kennedy, the thirty-fifth President of the US, on Friday, the 22nd November 1963 in Dallas, Texas. Kennedy was assassinated by Lee Harvey Oswald while he was traveling in a Presidential motorcade, leaving the world in shock. Osward was shot and killed as being transferred from a city jail to a county jail before any conclusion was reached.
Nearly five decades have passed, but Americans are still memorized about John F. Kennedy, the president whose time was brutally cut short and those memories of his death are just as clear as ever. Americans marked the 48th anniversary of US president John F Kennedy on Tuesday, November 22.
In commemoration of Kennedy’s assassination, the Brookline home, where he was born, was opened to the public on Tuesday. The John Fitzgerald Kennedy National Historic Site, which is usually closed from November through April, was also opened on Tuesday from a.m. to 4:30 p.m., with free admission as well as guided tours. During this time, the Sixth Floor Museum in Downtown Dallas uses historic films, photographs, artifacts and informative displays to chronicle the assassination and legacy of JFK.
President John F. Kennedy was forty-six years old at the death and he had served less than three years in office before being assassinated. During his short time in power, Kennedy and his wife Jacqueline Bouvier Kennedy became immensely popular both in the United States and abroad.
At the time of Kennedy’s death, much of activity in the U.S. was postponed because people rallied round televisions to watch the coverage of his assassination and his funeral. That was the first time many Americans were able to follow from beginning to end a tragedy like this.
