BlackBerry Z10 review: RIM’s new phone offers sleek, modern touch-screen body and good camera

By Groshan Fabiola

The BlackBerry Z10 was officially unveiled by maker Research In Motion Ltd after long wait in New York City on Wednesday morning (January 30, 2013). The handset looks suspiciously like Apple's black iPhone 5 at first glance but it has everything you've been waiting for with a sleek and modern body. Especially, the BB Z10’s shape still fits neatly into pockets in spite of being larger than the iPhone 5 overall. The phone features a 4.2-inch HD display with a 1280 x 768p resolution and a dual-core TI OMAP 4470 1.5GHz processor. Besides, the handsome BlackBerry Z10 has an 8-megapixel rear-mounted camera with 1080p Full HD video recording capabilities along with a 2.0-megapixel front-facing camera. A 1,800mAh battery is also present. The BlackBerry Z10, which will also be enabled to run on the next generation of high-speed mobile internet 4G, goes on sale first in the United Kingdom, Canada and United Arab Emirates. The phone’s due to show up in the U.S. at a price of $199 on a two-year contract in March 2013.

BlackBerry Z10

Maker Research In Motion Ltd (RIM) unveiled the BlackBerry Z10 after lengthy delays in New York on Wednesday morning (January 30, 2013).

RIM initially said BlackBerry 10 would come by early 2012, but then the Canadian firm changed that to late 2012. However, a few months later, that date was pushed further, to early 2013.

At the BlackBerry 10 launch, CEO Thorsten Heins also announced that the maker of the BlackBerry smartphone would no longer be known as Research In Motion. RIM changed its name to BlackBerry to maintain a single brand and it is being rebranded as BlackBerry. "We have reinvented the company, and we want to represent this in our brand," he said. "One brand. One promise. Our customers use a BlackBerry, our employees work for BlackBerry, and our shareholders are owners of BlackBerry."
