Secrets beyond Statue of Liberty

If you have a chance to visit New York City, the Statue of Liberty, which fully titled as Liberty Enlightening the World, is one interesting destination you cannot miss. As a universal symbol of freedom and democracy, it is the friendship-based gift to the United States from French people. Tourists can get inside the statue and climb up to watch the picturesque beauty of Ellis Island by spiral staircase when they visit the prestigious symbol of America.




Now, let’s discover some secrets of this icon for over years to partly know the ideals she represents and the hopes she inspires.





Its formal name is Liberty Enlightening the World. This Statue is actually a gift from the people of France

The Statue of Liberty was dedicated on October 28, 1886, designated as a National Monument in 1924, and restored on July 4, 1986.

The Statue of Liberty totally weighs 225 tons (or 450,000 pounds) and measures 305 feet 6 inches (from the base of the pedestal foundation to the tip of the torch). Besides, it features 154 steps from the pedestal to the head. During the restoration was completed in 1986, the new torch was carefully covered with thin sheets of 24k gold.
